lThis workshop is about our inner DEMONS and how they can help us create modern, complex and very real characters for screen and stage. Our DEMONS take us to every aspect of what is is to be human, confront us with our beliefs of who we think we are and expand our ideas of how to play both comedy and drama.
I am developing an acting approach of how to use our inner DEMONS (sometimes called Shadow Selves) in our character work. The foundation of the method is in the learnings of Stanislavski, the heart is the Chubbuck Technique and the stepping stone the legacy of the psychoanalysist Carl Jung.
The work is both analytical, emotional, physical as well as intuitive – using your whole capacity as an actor and human being. It can be quite an overwhelming process, but more important; a deeply rewarding one. The way you see yourself and your mission as an actor will most likely be changed forever.
Working language in this course is English. We will work on contemporary and classical scenes from movies, TV-series and stage. The course begins with one day online to do the groundwork, and one week later we meet in Uithoorn at the outskirts of Amsterdam for
WORKING WITH THE DEMONS
A DEMON is a concept found in almost every culture around the world. It was popularized in the west by Carl Jung under the name of “The Shadow”. It is any aspect of the unconscious mind that we have rejected, denied or disowned. Plainly it’s anything within us that we are unwilling to face; what we’ve shoved down as deep as possible inside of us. We often think of them as the darker aspects of ourselves as our shame, our fear, our phobias or traumas, but it can also be positive traits, that we don’t believe we deserve to have. Hidden inside of us, the demons are in fact powerful sources of energy. They are closely linked to our creativity and if we connect to them it can open up a creative surge, pushing us through creative blocks and making us look upon our artistic journey in a new light.
THE COURSE PROCESS
PREPARE
Two weeks before our first meeting online you will get a scene and a scene partner via email. You prepare by watching the movie, tv-series or read the play script. You will read through the compilation consisting of texts and exercises that will be provided in the email. You will meet and rehearse with your scene partner – online or in real life.
DO THE GROUND WORK
Our first session together will be online, where we will go through the analysis, the drives and the given circumstances of all the scenes in the course. For this we will use the learnings of Stanislavki, the 12 steps of the Chubbuck Technique and other modern acting methods.
GO DEEPER
After this first session together every scene pair will meet up with Elisabet individually online for 45 minutes during the week after. We will go through “how this is about me” to find the inner work; what connects you to the scene and the character on a deeply human level.
RENDEZVOUS WITH OUR DEMON
Now we are ready to get together in real life for three days in beautiful Falkenberg for a rendez-vous with our demons. We will deep dive to find, reveal, explore and integrate our demons in a creative process, using these rejected sides of us to win. Like the alchemical process of turning shit into gold.
